Position Summary
The Upjohn Institute for Employment Research is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Editor/Writer to join our media and communications team. This role is essential in creating, editing, and refining high-quality content that informs, engages, and resonates with both internal and external audiences. The Editor/Writer will be responsible for producing a wide range of materials—from timely news articles to in-depth features—across various platforms, as well as editing and revising content for grammar, clarity, accuracy, tone, and style.
The Editor/Writer will stay current with labor economic, education, and workforce industry trends, news, and best practices to ensure content remains relevant and engaging, and they will ensure all content aligns with brand voice, tone, and editorial style guidelines.
The Upjohn Institute is located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This is a hybrid position which requires weekly work in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Proofread editorial changes to copy after they are entered into electronic files and maintain a high level of quality and accuracy in edited publications.
- Editing copy and graphic content, using various software to facilitate the editing process.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate technical findings into plain language for non-specialist audiences.
- Maintain schedules and achieve goals by meeting deadlines while managing priorities and shifting between projects as necessary.
- Draft original copy for internal and external channels, as assigned.
Position Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or another relevant field.
- Strong editorial skills and the ability to use various style guides.
- High level organizational and time management skills, including the discipline to meet deadlines.
- Journalistic storytelling skills.
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Wages and Benefits
Starting salary for this position is $55,000 – $65,000 based on relevant experience, as well as a generous benefit package. Offered benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, short-term extended medical leave, long-term disability, parental leave, and a retirement plan.
